Group Chief Finance Officer

Job Summary:

The Group Chief Finance Officer (GCFO) at J-Pay Africa Group will be responsible for overseeing the company’s financial strategy, ensuring financial health, and driving profitability across multiple regions. This role requires a seasoned finance leader with expertise in FinTech, digital banking, and financial services. The GCFO will develop financial policies, manage risk, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and optimize financial operations to support J-Pay Africa’s expansion across Africa and beyond.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy aligned with J-Pay Africa Group’s growth objectives.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including investor relations, venture capital engagements, and partnerships with financial institutions.
  • Identify new revenue streams, investment opportunities, and cost-optimization initiatives.

2. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee financial statements, audits, and reporting in compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the Board, investors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Implement robust financial controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
  • Optimize cash flow management, working capital, and treasury functions across all subsidiaries.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations in Kenya, Africa, and other jurisdictions where J-Pay Africa operates.
  • Work closely with regulators, central banks, tax authorities, and compliance bodies.
  • Develop and enforce Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and financial risk management policies.
  • Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and financial governance programs.

4. Capital Management & Investment

  • Oversee capital allocation, financial modeling, and investment analysis.
  • Drive M&A (mergers and acquisitions) strategies, partnerships, and joint ventures.
  • Ensure optimal debt and equity financing structures to support growth initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with banks, private equity firms, and institutional investors.

5. Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team across multiple markets.
  • Collaborate with C-level executives to support business expansion, technology investments, and product development.
  • Present financial strategies and reports to the The Group Chief Executive Officer and key stakeholders.
  • Provide financial advisory on pricing models, profitability, and market expansion.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree (MBA, Finance) is an added advantage.
Certified CPA, CFA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification.
5+ years of experience in financial leadership, preferably in FinTech, banking, or financial services.

✅ Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks in Africa and global financial compliance.
✅ Expertise in financial forecasting, risk management, M&A, and treasury operations.
✅ Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
